Fall [PC] [NA] [1] X-COM: Enemy Unknown
X-Com is back! Well, it's X-Com remade and simplified, but still technically X-Com. In X-Com you're tasked with fighting off an alien invasion by engaging in randomly generated levels until you've earned enough resources and power to complete the final mission. I am fond of squad based military tactics games such as Front Mission, Jagged Alliance, or the much maligned Operation Darkness, so I hope they put together a decent game that fixes up the UI and balance issues.
Gungnir is another 2011 release being localized for NA. It's a traditional isometric tactics game, but since it's being developed by Sting, you can expect some complicated underlying mechanics to geek out over, if you're inclined to do so. I like the added depth and difficulty settings, but Gungnir's campaign feels a bit generic.
04/19 [3DS] [JP] [1] Fire Emblem: Kakusei
Fire Emblem: Kakusei has more RPG elements than usual, similar to Sacred Stones. Since we recently saw Sacred Stones on the 3DS Virtual Console in NA, there's a better chance of Kakusei being localized. Being on the region locked 3DS it's going to be much more difficult for NA gamers to import.
04/05 [PSP] [JP] [P] [1] 2nd Super Robot Wars Z Saisei-hen
2nd Super Robot Wars Z Saisei-hen is the sequel to 2nd SRW Z Hakai-hen. We've got a couple of new robot series, carryover bonuses, and likely the same strong production values, impressive 2D animation, and entertaining scenarios. I wish they'd add Ex-Hard back in, which was in Super Robot Wars Z, but removed in Hakai-hen.
03/29 [X360/PS3] [JP] [P] [1] Daisenryaku Perfect: Senjou no Hasha
Daisenryaku is the last military wargame simulaton series on consoles, although it's also usually available on PC. It's similar to the many PC wargame sims you never hear about except on wargamer.com or other specialist sites. It's realistic, complicated, and difficult. I tried the PSP version of Daisenryaku Perfect and it had a lot of load time and interface lag, so we'll see if they manage to one up the PC version this time.
03/17 [DS] [JP] [P] [1] Pokemon + Nobunaga’s Ambition
I'm not sure how Pokemon + Nobunaga’s Ambition got approved, but it's probably going to sell just based on the brand name. I'm actually surprised there hasn't been a Pokemon tactics game sooner, but here it comes.
02/28 [DS] [NA] [P1] [P2] [1] [2] Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor 2
Devil Survivor 2 is already out in Japan, but we'll be receiving it in NA next month. It plays very much like the first Devil Survivor, so if you liked the original you'll like the sequel. Devil Survivor 2 also has most of the improvements from Devil Survivor: Overclocked including an end of game ranking system, easy mode, and demon compendium.
